Context
When and where
Bengal Mangle's Charlie appeared in the web series Acting School Academy and then in his own series, Charlie the Abusive Teddy Bear (from about 2009). MacFarlane's Ted was released in 2012.
What followed
Bengal Mangle sued in July 2014 but dropped the case with prejudice in March 2015. The filing conceded that discovery showed MacFarlane created Ted independently, and each side paid its own costs.
